Common Threads is an organization that grew out of the belief that family and food have the power to nurture and strengthen us, to connect us to culture and community, and to teach and excite us about our world. By sharing the delight of cooking and delicious recipes, in conjunction with practical life-skills in health and nutrition, Common Threads can change lives.

Fundraisers are a key way for the organization to raise much needed funds and to often have a component of marketing as a take home after an event. The idea for these recipe cards was that the organization wanted to put something at each person’s plate at a formal fundraiser. I came up with the idea of recipe cards. These cards served two purposes: one side was used to tell a personal story about these children and the good the organization Common Threads does for these families, teaching low income children how to cook affordable meals and help prevent childhood obesity; on the other side is a recipe card for easy instructions on how to cook one of the kid’s favorite dish. Designed small enough that would fit into a purse, this was an awareness piece that people would actually keep.
